Is Reupholstering a good idea? please advice me.?

Many people call us asking if it’s better to reupholster the furniture or buy new? If we are looking for the price, common sense, it’s better to buy new upholstered furniture no doubt. As a Upholsterer one day i also was debating to buy two new chairs from Walmart or Costco, or make my own upholstered chairs. I decided to go to Home depot and to Lowe's to see the wood and see how much i was going to spend. Finally I calculated the numbers, including wood, upholstery fabric, supplies, and foam, I was going to spend about 1200 for the two chairs. At the end I decided to order 2 chairs from Walmart online for $350 both with free shipping, they lasted only about two years and they became useless. I have a couch for 25+ years that I made my self from scratch, and I reupholstered it 3 times and still in use like new. Now it’s you turn to judge yourself depending on your situation if it’s better to buy new or reupholstering your old upholstered furniture. Should i look for experienced and reputable upholstery shop?

Experienced upholsterers are not the only ones that know how to do the upholstery. The experience also involves in how to treat the customers, knowing how to estimate the fabrics or materials to save the customers of buying in excesses. Experienced means also professionalism and finishing the work at the promised time. An experienced upholsterer or upholstery shop will not give a high or lower estimate just by guessing, inexperienced upholsterer will give low or high estimate because they are not sure of what the are doing. Sometimes doing nice work is not the only part of experience, it includes everything, and the best part is the honesty. A great upholstery shop or upholsterers will provide the best estimate possible, just by asking the customers for some measurements, also now with the technology some pictures, after giving the ballpark estimate the upholsterer will not have to raise the price when meeting with the customer if there is no discrepancies on the customer measurements or pictures.
